EPA Publishes Statistics from 2010

EPA has recently published its 2010 statistics on public drinking water systems.  The document, Fiscal Year 2010 Drinking Water and Ground Water Statistics (formerly called Factoids), compiles data from EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS/Fed).  It includes statistics on the number of drinking water systems in the country — broken down by type of system, size, and source of water.  The report also provides similar data on a state by state basis.  In addition, the document includes information on violations broken out by rule, type of violation, and system size — both nationally and by EPA region, but not by state.  For comparison, violation statistics from earlier years are included.   Finally, state by state statistics on wells covered by the Underground Injection Control Program (UIC) are also included.

The document is a useful source of background data for general presentations about drinking water implementation and can also help put individual state statistics in perspective.  A copy of the document is attached to this post.
