EPA Report on Drinking Water Treatment Residuals Management

In 2004, EPA initiated a rulemaking that would have established technology-based effluent limitations for wastewater discharges from drinking water treatment plants to surface waters.  As a part of that process, the Agency collected extensive information and went on several site visits.  They subsequently decided to discontinue the rulemaking but collected the information gathered into a report so that NPDES permit writers may use it, on a case-by-case basis, as they consider individual permits for these facilities.  The report provides information about drinking water treatment technologies and residuals best management practices, along with a special report about a water treatment facility in Puerto Rico.   You may access these materials through the following website:   http://water.epa.gov/scitech/wastetech/guide/treatment/residuals.cfm.
