National Ground Water Association Webinar Series for Regulatory Personnel

The National Ground Water Association (NGWA) has been hosting a free Groundwater and Wells webinar series designed for regulatory personnel with oversight responsibility of groundwater resources or public health. These free-to-regulatory personnel 30-minute presentations will offer information in easy-to-digest pieces on such topics as, but not limited to, groundwater flow, groundwater quality, well construction, well development, well maintenance, and vertical closed-loop geothermal heat pump installations. Each webinar in this series requires separate registration and you may register for as many (or few) as you wish. The series will be ongoing and new installments are planned to be added every three to six weeks. The following link provides registration information (though free, preregistration is required as connections are limited):

A summary of the next two webinar offerings is as follows:

  • January 18, 2012, 2 p.m. ET – Water Supply Well Construction Methods: This webinar addresses various types of well construction methods including mud rotary, air rotary, cable tool, reverse circulation, and auger. Each method has advantages and disadvantages, and some are better suited to specific geologic formations than others. You will learn the unique characteristics of these methods and the circumstances under which they best perform.
  • February 28, 2012, 2 p.m. ET – Water Supply Well Inspections: Many states and local jurisdictions require a new water supply well be inspected following construction to ensure the consumer will have a safe, sufficient supply. In addition, existing wells should also receive attention annually to ensure their condition. And though regulations vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, this webinar discusses those items that should be included in all water supply well inspection such as water quality, proximity to potential sources of contamination, and quality of materials. During this webinar, you will learn about the critical components of proper well construction, red flags that indicate potential problems, and what to look for in existing well construction.
