Sequester Impacts

With the Sequester in effect as of March 1st, Federal non-defense spending reductions for the remainder of this Federal fiscal year will equal $42.667 billion. The impact to EPA’s budget is generally estimated at 5% across all programs and equals a $472 million overall reduction. This means that the State and Tribal Assistance Grant (STAG) account that includes funding for both the state PWSS program and DWSRF, among a much broader list of programs, will be reduced by $210 million. Separately, ASDWA has learned that the Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service budget that includes funding for water and wastewater circuit rider programs will also be reduced by 5% or $25 million.
