EPA Publishes New Best Management Practices for Schools and Child Care Centers

EPA’s “Recent Additions” link on their water.epa.gov website contains two new publications that offer best management practices for the water systems serving schools and child care centers.

• The first, Drinking Water Best Management Practices For Schools and Child Care Facilities With Their Own Drinking Water Source  (PDF) EPA 816-B-13-001 (April 2013), describes the best management practices for drinking water in a school or child care facility that is a public water system.

• The second guidance document provides information to municipally served schools and child care facilities on how to implement voluntary programs and policies to ensure water quality in the facility.  It is appropriately titled, Drinking Water Best Management Practices For Schools and Child Care Facilities Served by Municipal Water Systems (PDF)  EPA 816-B-13-002 (April 2013).

Both guides detail the importance of implementing best management practices of drinking water in a school or child care facility and practices a school or child care facility can implement to reduce lead and bacteria in their facility, and how to avoid cross contamination and water conservation tips.
