ACWI Climate Change Adaptation Workgroup Holds Conference Call

On December 5th, the Advisory Committee on Water Information’s (ACWI) Water Resources Adaptation to Climate Change workgroup (which includes ASDWA representatives) met to discuss the key elements of the President’s New Executive Order on Climate Change Preparedness, as well as next steps for creating sub-groups to develop an assessment and recommendations based on five of the six key areas in the National Action Plan – Managing Freshwater Resources in a Changing Climate (published by the Interagency Climate Change Adaptation Task Force in October 2011) as follows:

  1. Improve Water Resources and Climate Change Information for Decision-making
  2. Strengthen Assessment of Vulnerability of Water Resources to Climate Change
  3. Expand Water Use Efficiency
  4. Support Integrated Water Resources Management
  5. Support Training and Outreach to Build Response Capability

The workgroup plans to hold an in person meeting on February 19-20, 2014 in in Arlington, VA.  This meeting will help to further these actions, that will also provide input to the President’s report on Land and Water, as described in Section 3 of the Executive Order noted above.
