AWWA Held Webinar on Water Contamination Incidents and Response Guidance

On January 21st, the American Water Works Association (AWWA) held a webinar entitled, “Water Contamination Incidents and Response Guidance.”  Speakers and topics during the webinar included:

  • ·Jeff McIntyre of West Virginia American Water spoke about the utilities efforts to respond and recover from the chemical spill incident on the Elk River in Charleston, West Virginia.
  • Mike Baker of Ohio’s Drinking Water Program shared information about the Toledo, Ohio Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) contamination incident and response activities; and
  • Stanley States of the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) provided a very brief overview of EPA’s Response Protocol Toolbox that provides a contamination threat management decision tree and a disaster notification decision tree for water utilities to respond to water contamination incidents.
