EPA Posts New UCMR3 Data

Monitoring for the third Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR3) continues through 2015 but EPA has posted another updated set of results covering samples collected so far this year.  Under UCMR3, water systems are monitoring for 28 chemicals and 11 viruses and indicator microbials.  Trends shown in earlier results continue with a few naturally occurring chemicals being detected in significant numbers but very few contaminants with detects above a health reference level.  Vanadium, Molybdenum, Strontium, Chromium, Chromium-6, and Chlorate were commonly found.  Only 1,2,3-trichloropropane, 1,4-dioxane, Vanadium, Strontium, and Chlorate were found above health reference levels in more than 1% of the water systems.  Strontium has already been recommended for regulation in EPA’s latest preliminary regulatory determination (RegDet3).

The summary of results from UCMR3 (June 2015) is available on EPA’s UCMR web page where the full data set of UCMR results can also be downloaded.
