New York Senators Take on Perfluorinateds

Late last week, New York’s Democratic Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer, who also serves as the Senate Minority Leader, introduced a bill to require that EPA set health-based MCLGs for PFOA, PFOS, perchlorate and 1,4 dioxane.  The MCLGs and subsequent national primary drinking water regulations would have to be developed and issued within two years of enactment.  The text of S 519, “A bill to amend the Safe Water Drinking [sic] Act to require the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to establish maximum contaminant levels for certain contaminants, and for other purposes” is not yet available from Congress.gov but the measure has been referred to the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee for consideration.
