House Passes 2018 Budget Resolution

On Thursday, October 5, the House passed budget legislation that is a step (with more steps to come) for potential future tax reform legislation. The 219-206 vote was generally along party lines, with 18 Republicans voting against the budget resolution. This legislation lays the foundation for using a special legislative process known as budget reconciliation to preclude any Democratic filibusters in the Senate.
However, some Republicans are concerned about the potential for increased deficits and the potential elimination of the deduction for state and local taxes, and there are no guarantees for a tax reform bill. Getting from this vote to President Trump signing legislation will likely be a torturous process, and ASDWA will continue to monitor the process and report outcomes as the process unfolds.
