Wheeler Tapped for No. 2 Post at EPA

Andrew Wheeler has been nominated to serve as the Deputy Administrator for EPA.  Wheeler has extensive experience across a range of issues important to the Agency.  Most recently an energy lobbyist, Wheeler spent many years at the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee serving first as Staff Director for the Subcommittee on Clean Air, Climate Change, and Nuclear Safety and then moving to the Full Committee as both Staff Director and Chief Counsel.  He even has some EPA experience.  Early in his career, Wheeler worked on toxic chemicals and pollution prevention issues.
Wheeler’s nomination will have to be vetted by the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee and, if approved, subject to confirmation by the Senate as a whole.  Wheeler joins other EPA nominees – Susan Bodine to be OECA AA; David Ross to be AA for Water, Matthew Leopold to head the Agency’s Office of General Counsel, Michael Dourson to be AA for the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, and William Wehrum to be AA for the Office of Air and Radiation – in waiting for Committee and/or Senate approval.
