January SDWIS Prime Update

by Alan Roberson, Executive Director, ASDWA

Good morning State Administrators, this is the third in a series of monthly updates on SDWIS Prime that ASDWA will email to all administrators in the first part of each month so that everyone has accurate information on its development and implementation. These monthly updates will continue through at least to the end of 2018 and likely into 2019.

EPA has fixed the facility data problem (and some other problems) that delayed the SDWIS Prime v0.8 User Acceptance Testing (UAT). The testing is now scheduled to begin on January 10th, with the first of six EPA webinars scheduled for 3 PM EST on that date. Testing on v0.8 will continue until the end of February, with five additional webinars scheduled between 1/10 and 2/28 to assist in the testing. Since each phase of testing builds on the previous phase, it is important for states to join at the start of testing (1/10) and keep up with the testing process.

EPA and Attain (EPA’s contractor) worked with ASDWA in late December to set up a meeting with the six User Acceptance Testing (UAT) states for January 16-19th, as a mechanism to obtain additional insights into the rest of the development for SWIS Prime v1.0. Some of the topics that will be discussed at this meeting include sample management, enforcement solutions, the relationships between the various modules, configurations for compliance with individual regulations, data quality checks, rule compliance, user management, and pre-compliance check reports. Additional discussion topics will likely arise during this meeting.

SDWIS Prime v1.0 release is still scheduled for May 2018, followed a few months of UAT and pilot testing in six states. Pilot testing will last until full functionality is achieved. At this point, the general transition to Prime can begin, with an estimated timeframe of November 2018. The clock for EPA’s one year of support for the states will start then, only after v1.0 is fully tested and available to states to adopt.

We will continue to keep everyone posted as SDWIS Prime development continues.
