EPA’s Inspector General to Review the “2 for 1” Executive Order

EPA’s Office of Inspector General (IG) has announced that they will review the implementation of Executive Order 13771, “Reducing Regulation and Controlling Regulatory Costs”.  E.O. 13771 is the Presidential order that requires two regulations to be repealed for each new regulation that is adopted.  The IG will examine the management controls that are in place to govern the implementation of the Executive Order, not the impact of the Order itself.  The IG will also look for best practices and lessons learned that can improve compliance with 13771 in the future.

So far, no new rules have triggered the Order limitations, although the pending LCR Long Term Revisions or Perchlorate Rule could trigger these requirements in the future.
