ASDWA Provides Additional PFAS Input to EPA

EPA is continuing to solicit input from the drinking water community on issues from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), after its PFAS National Leadership Summit on May 22-23. EPA has held a series of PFAS Community Engagements in Exeter, NH, Horsham, PA, and Colorado Springs, CO, with another one scheduled for August 14th in Fayetteville, NC.

As part of this outreach, EPA established a docket for comments and input on PFAS issues. ASDWA recently submitted comments to EPA that reiterated the recommendations from its earlier letter to EPA and CDC. ASDWA recommended that EPA include another round of PFAS monitoring in the Fifth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR5) to collect additional national occurrence information (using lower detection and reporting limits), and also recommended that EPA continues to work on its decision-making on whether national standards are warranted (or not) for PFOA and PFOS.
