EPA Seeks Comments on Draft Interim Recommendations for Addressing Groundwater Contaminated with PFOA and PFOS

EPA has released its Draft Interim Recommendations for Addressing Groundwater Contaminated with Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) for public review and comment, as part of the Agency’s PFAS Action Plan commitments. EPA developed these draft recommendations based on the current scientific understanding of PFAS toxicity, to protect public health in communities with groundwater that is a potential source of drinking water and contains PFOA and PFOS above the Agency’s health advisory levels of 70 parts per trillion level. The draft guidance describes EPA’s interim recommendations for screening levels and preliminary remediation goals to address PFOA and PFOS in groundwater under federal cleanup programs and can be used by state, tribal, and local partners.

ASDWA will work with its PFAS Workgroup to develop comments. The 45-day public comment period will close on June 10, 2019. For more information, visit EPA’s website and view the comment docket.
