Virginia Tech Hosts the Annual Sustainable Water Infrastructure Management (SWIM) Conference

This week Virginia Tech hosted the Sustainable Water Infrastructure Management (SWIM) Conference in Arlington, VA. This year’s Conference focused on advancing water sector infrastructure to be intelligent, sustainable, and resilient. The Conference brought in speakers to discuss resilience, at the state and system level, during extreme events, urbanization, and deteriorating water infrastructure. States shared examples of enhancing their resilience by partnering with organizations like the Department of Conservation and Department of General Services to share knowledge and resources when developing resilience plans.

The Conference also included examples of new technology being implemented to prepare for system disruptions. The digital twin concept was discussed, where water systems can utilize dynamic software to model the physical plant/system and continuously run what-if scenarios to improve preparedness.
