EPA Extends Comment Period for Proposed LCRR to February 12th

Today’s (12/19) Federal Register contains a notice of the extension of the public comment period for the proposed Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR). EPA extended the comment period due to the multiple requests for additional time to consider the substantial regulatory changes that have been proposed. Comments are now due to EPA on February 12th, instead of on January 13th as originally proposed.

ASDWA is in the process of developing its own comments and encourages states (and other drinking water stakeholders) to submit their own comments and recognizes that these comments may differ from ASDWA’s comments. ASDWA’s comments will address a dozen major categories within the proposed LCRR and will provide substantive recommendations for implementation of the final LCRR. A major effort is underway to estimate the states’ burden, i.e., estimate the number of staff hours to implement the final LCRR, and develop an update to ASDWA’s 2018 Costs of State Transactions Study (CoSTS) as part of ASDWA’s comments on the proposed LCRR.
