California Adopts Definition of Microplastics in Drinking Water

In response to California Senate Bill No. 1422, the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) unanimously approved a definition of microplastics in drinking water, which includes plastic particles with three dimensions that are less than 5 millimeters in length. SWRCB.gov

The definition notes that, “evidence concerning the toxicity and exposure of humans to microplastics is nascent and rapidly evolving, and the proposed definition of ‘Microplastics in Drinking Water’ is subject to change in response to new information,” or change based on advances in analytical techniques and methods.
