EPA Announces Action on Scientific Integrity with Review of PFBS Toxicity Assessment

EPA has issued a press release on taking action to protect scientific integrity that includes removing the Toxicity Assessment for PFBS (a PFAS compound) from the Agency’s website pending further review. These actions stem from President Biden’s January 27th Memorandum on Restoring Trust in Government Through Scientific Integrity and Evidence-Based Policymaking and the subsequent review of new PFAS actions announced on January 19th before Biden took office. EPA career scientists have reviewed this content and made an initial determination that the PFBS Toxicity Assessment was “compromised by political interference as well as infringement of authorship and the scientific independence of the authors’ conclusions.” For more information, read the press release here.
