EPA to Move Forward with Proposed UCMR5 and Final PFOA/PFOS Regulatory Determinations

Today (2/22) , the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that it will move forward with actions on the proposed Fifth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR) and the final Regulatory Determinations for PFOA and PFOS (and six other chemicals from the Fourth Contaminant Candidate List [CCL4]). After a review in accordance with Biden-Harris administration executive orders, the agency is reissuing these actions in the Federal Register.

With the final Regulatory Determinations for PFOA and PFOS, EPA will move forward to implement the national primary drinking water regulation development process for these two contaminants. The Regulatory Determinations outline options EPA is considering to further evaluate additional PFAS and provide flexibility for the agency to consider groups of PFAS as supported by the best available science. The proposed UCMR5 will provide new occurrence data for 29 PFAS in drinking water systems. EPA will accept public comment on the proposed UCMR5 for 60 days, following publication in the Federal Register and the agency will hold a virtual stakeholder meeting twice during the public comment period.
