Proposed UCMR 5 Published in Federal Register

Today (3/11), EPA published the proposed fifth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR 5) in the Federal Register. As proposed, UCMR 5 would require sample collection for 29 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and lithium between 2023 and 2025 using analytical methods developed by EPA and consensus organizations. EPA will be hosting two identical virtual stakeholder meetings on Tuesday April 6, 9-12:30pm (Eastern) and Wednesday April 7, 1:00-4:30pm (Eastern). The meeting scope will include the proposed monitoring requirements, analyte selection, analytical methods, laboratory approval process, and ground water representative monitoring plans (GWRMPs). One person per organization will be limited to a ten-minute presentation.

EPA has released a factsheet that can be accessed here. For additional information on UCMR, including the specific contaminants, minimum reporting levels, sampling locations, and analytical methods, click here. EPA will accept public comment on the proposed UCMR 5 for 60 days (5/10/2021).
