AWWA Publishes New Affordability in SDWA Rulemakings Report

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) has published a new document entitled, “Improving the Evaluation of Household-Level Affordability in SDWA Rulemaking: New Approaches.” The report was developed by an expert panel to better inform decisions made by the Agency, states, and public water systems, and to help identify and address environmental justice during their decision-making processes. The seven key recommendations and four analysis metrics in the report include suggestions for increasing the focus on impacts to households in the lowest 20 percent of income, rather than median household income, as well as ensuring that regulatory actions account for access to affordable water service by vulnerable populations and the need to protect their health. For more information, see the press release and read the report here.
