June 10th SWC Webinar: Opportunities for New NRCS NWQI Watersheds

On Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm (eastern time), the Source Water Collaborative (SWC), for which ASDWA is a co-chair, will host an informative webinar on how to engage NRCS and other partners to identify drinking water watersheds for the FY 2022 National Water Quality Initiative (NWQI). The goal of the webinar is to inform participants about the current opportunity, and the importance of initiating or continuing conversations with NRCS now before the NWQI deadline on July 9, 2021.

This webinar is designed to benefit state source water coordinators, state and local NRCS, utilities, conservation districts and other source water partners. You will hear the State NRCS perspective on NWQI and its source water protection opportunities, as well as tips for engaging with NRCS at the state and local levels, and other key information. Connecticut and Oregon’s successful approaches to NWQI will provide some examples of data sharing and state and local partnerships that you can use and adapt in your own source water work with NRCS.

The webinar will be moderated by Adam Carpenter, Manager of Energy and Environmental Policy with the American Water Works Association. The speakers will include:

  • Tom Morgart, Connecticut State Conservationist – NRCS
  • Julie Harvey, Drinking Water Protection Program Coordinator with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality
  • Jason Faucera, Conservation Initiatives Manager with Clackamas SWCD
