EPA Administrator PFAS Actions Announcement

On April 28, 2025, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced a list of upcoming PFAS actions. The actions are guided by the Agency principles to strengthen science, fulfill statutory obligations and enhance communication, and build partnerships. EPA says it will provide the foundation and investment necessary to undertake this firt list of actions, with more to come on helping states and communities dealing with PFAS contamination. Some of the actions include:

  • Designating an agency PFAS lead
  • Addressing challenges and requests with PFAS drinking water regulations
  • Using Safe Drinking Water Act authority to investigate and address immediate endangerment
  • Working with Congress and industry to establish a clear liability framework that operates on polluter pays and protects passive receivers
  • Creating effluent limitations guidelines (ELGs) for certain PFAS to stop them from entering drinking water systems
  • Implementing a PFAS testing strategy under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)
  • Advancing remediation and cleanup efforts where drinking water supplies are impacted by PFAS contamination
