White House Released Proposed FY2026 President’s Budget
On Friday, May 2, 2025, the White House released the Proposed President’s Budget for FY2026. Drinking Water is targeted for a $9 million increase from FY2025 levels, with the justification that “the $9 million increase from the 2025 enacted level is to properly equip EPA with funds to respond to drinking water disasters, directly helping people on the ground recover from such emergencies”.
There are also proposed cuts and consolidations to the DWSRFs, Categorical Grants, and EPA Office of Research and Development (ORD), with a $2.46 billion cut to Clean Water and Drinking Water SRFs, about $1 billion cut to the Categorical Grants, and $235 million cut to ORD. The narrative for each line item in the proposed budget provides an explanation of the cuts.
The full Proposed Budget can be found here, with the relevant sections on page 14 and 15.
