Region 3 State Source Water Protection Meeting Held this Week
The states and commissions in EPA Region 3 held their annual Source Water Protection Meeting this week on June 4-5, 2025, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The meeting was hosted by the Pennsylvania (PA) Department of Environmental Protection at the Susquehanna River Basin Commission offices. Thirty people attended the meeting representing the PA, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Washington, DC, West Virginia, and EPA Region 3 source water protection programs, along with the Potomac River Basin Drinking Water Source Protection Partnership, the Delaware and Susquehanna River Basin Commissions, and Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO), the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the USGS PA Water Science Center, Penn State Extension, the Ground Water Protection Council (GWPC), and ASDWA.
Michelle Price-Fay, the EPA Region 3 Water Division Director welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked all the states, commissions, and partners for their great work to protect drinking water sources across the region. During the meeting, each state, commission, and partner organization talked about their efforts to support their water utilities, work with partners, develop and use data and GIS mapping tools, assess and address contaminants like PFAS and nutrients in their groundwater and surface water, and more.
