NIST’s National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence Proposes Project to Secure Water and Wastewater Utilities

The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE), an effort out of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is soliciting comments on a newly proposed project to help the water and wastewater sector organizations prepare for and mitigate against cybersecurity risks. The project, Securing Water and Wastewater Utilities: Cybersecurity for the Water and Wastewater Systems Sector, will focus on common scenarios that may demonstrate higher-risk cybersecurity characteristics for sector utilities. Together with recommended actions, the project will result in the development of a reference architecture specifically designed for the sector.

NCCoE is accepting public comments on their draft project proposal between now and December 19th, which is available here: Securing Water and Wastewater Utilities (nist.gov). For those interested in learning more, NCCoE’s project team has scheduled a webinar for Thursday, December 8, from 2-3 PM ET.
