State Receive Grants for Lead Testing in Schools and Child Care Facilities

In 2017, the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act made several amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). Section 2017 of WIIN authorized a new grant program for lead testing in schools and child care facilities. Funding for this new grant program was appropriated by Congress and EPA has been working through its processes to distribute this grant funding. EPA recently awarded $2.2 million to four states for these lead testing programs, and more and more states are receiving these grants and starting the testing for lead in schools and child care facilities.

EPA has proposed a mandatory program for lead testing in schools and child care facilities as part of its proposed Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR). Comments are due on the LCRR on February 12, 2020.
