Hurricane Laura’s Impact on Water Systems

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to present unique challenges to the water sector, coastal states are bracing for and recovering from hurricane impacts. The recent Hurricane Laura has caused water outages at 69 Louisiana water systems, as of Wednesday morning (9/2), leaving approximately 180,000 people without water. Also impacted are 152 Louisiana public water systems that have been placed under a boil water advisory. Louisiana Department of Health, water systems, and the Louisiana Water and Wastewater Agency Response Network (LaWARN) are continuously working to restore impacted water systems.

Louisiana Department of Health is regularly updating their website with current water outages and boil advisories. Additionally, Louisiana has included several resources on storm guidance during COVID-19, which can be found here.
