ECOS Publishes Updated White Paper for Setting State PFAS Standards

The Environmental Council of the States (ECOS) has published a new update to its “White Paper: Processes and Considerations for Setting State PFAS Standards.” The paper compiles and evaluates information on different state PFAS standards, advisories, and guidance values for drinking water, groundwater, surface water, soil, and other environmental media. It also includes helpful information about considerations for risk assessments using available health studies to calculate toxicity criteria and derive health-based PFAS guidance levels. This update includes revisions to state guidelines since the April 2021 version, information from three additional states, and many updates for new regulatory and scientific activities that have occurred over the past year, such as EPA actions and analytical methods. The paper was initially published in February 2020 and ECOS will continue to update it annually as appropriate. For more information and to download the White Paper, visit the ECOS website.
