Congressional Leadership Reaches Budget Agreement

Over the weekend, Congressional leadership reached an agreement on overall spending levels for Fiscal Year 24 (FY24) that could possibly prevent a partial government shutdown on January 19. The funding from the current Continuing Resolution (CR) expires for some Federal Agencies on January 19, with the funding for the balance expiring on February 2. The agreement is separate from ongoing negotiations for additional funding for Israel and Ukraine, and for curbing restrictions on asylum claims at the border. It should be noted that both chambers of Congress still have to pass the agreed-up budget and contentious discussion within both chambers is likely.
